My Digital Lesson

I had to create a lesson plan using technology and do the lesson in my classroom. My mentor teacher gave me a list of vocabulary and spelling words that the students would be working with and the story they would be reading. I found a website that connects to their reading. My mentor teacher told me that the students have used the website (spellingcity.com) in the past. She had the students work with spellingcity prior to my lesson to help them be more familiar with it for my lesson. When I got to my PDS, the students were extra excited. My teacher had told them that I would be teaching a lesson that week and they couldn't wait. I went over vocabulary and spelling words with them and wrote down the words on the board as the students said them. The students copied the words onto a piece of paper to take with them as reference on the computers. When the students were on the computers, they all wanted my help. Quickly, I realized that they did not need my help. They only wanted me to watch them do well on the activity and win games on the website. I was very excited for them. Almost all of the students had great technology skills and really did a lot of work by completely assignments or games on the computer quickly. I think this was a great way for students to practice their spelling and vocabulary words without realizing that they were learning while playing the games. One game they particularly loved was hang mouse. It's like hang man but with a mouse trying to get cheese from a plate next to a mouse. Depending on the amount of letters in the words, the mouse had a certain amount of mistakes before the cat would wake up. The students would squeal as the cats eyes would slowly open. It was so funny to watch. They would play this game over and over trying again and getting better each time. It was a great lesson for practicing spelling and vocabulary I think. Soon, I will get the scores of the spelling test from later in the week from my mentor teacher to make observations on whether there were any improvements after the use of this website.
